2013 was a challenging vintage. However writing for Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate Neal Martin noted “I can see this giving 10-15 years of pleasure and it represents a very commendable wine in the context of the growing season.”
Batailley is definitely a château on the up. In recent years the quality and consistency of the Grand Vin produced at this prestigious Pauillac house has gone through the roof.
This is classic claret. In fact highly respected wine critic Neal Martin admits that Batailley is one of the Bordeaux châteaux that he chooses to drink for pleasure. And it’s not hard to see why when you sip the crème de cassis blackberry blueberry black cherry dark chocolate creamy coffee toasty oak cigar box and Chinese five spice flavours in this Grand Cru Classé. One of the highlights of the vintage now in its drinking window and beginning to spread its wings and fly.
Located in the heart of Pauillac Château Batailley is one of the oldest estates in the Médoc. Its name derives from the battle (“bataille” in French) that took place in 1452 in what are now the estate’s grounds. Today Batailley occupies a central role in Bordeaux being one of the few châteaux that were awarded Grand Cru status in the 1855 Bordeaux classification.
