90 points “A solidly built version with crushed cherry and plum puree notes that meld with melted red liquorice before singed juniper takes over on the finish. This has guts and range.” – Wine Spectator

Located in the heart of the Gigondas appellation Château de Saint Cosme is an exceptional estate with an incredible reputation and worldwide appeal as proven by it featuring in a Japanese manga series about wine called ‘Kami no Shizuku’ meaning ‘The Drops of God’. The property has been under the ownership of the Barruol family since 1490 with Louis Barruol now at the helm as the 14th generation winemaker. On top of all that their Gallo-Roman fermentation vats are perfectly preserved and they boast over 15 hectares of old vines which are farmed broadly following biodynamic principles. Their traditional wines are built to age and are some of the finest to be found anywhere in the Rhône Valley offering an almost unrivalled bang for the buck.

It's rare to discover a pure Syrah from the Southern Rhône but Château de Saint Cosme is not your run-of-the-mill producer. This is a lush Côtes du Rhône red brimming with blackberry smoky bacon coal blueberry muffin black pepper sandalwood and rose petal. Offering immense value for money this a fine choice for pairing with game tagine wild mushrooms herby roasts or Chinese black pepper sauce. This is an intense charming and ever-reliable French red worthy of a space in any wine cellar.
