“Barruol put together a 50-50 blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier for his 2019 IGP Pays d'Oc Little James’ Basket Press Blanc… it's a fun appealing effort loaded with passionfruit and citrus with touches of melon and apricot. Plump in the mouth it remains zippy and fresh with a mouth-watering finish.” – Wine Advocate
Located in the heart of the Gigondas appellation Château de Saint Cosme is an exceptional estate with an incredible reputation and worldwide appeal as proven by it featuring in a Japanese manga series about wine called Kami no Shizuku meaning ‘The Drops of God’. The property has been under the ownership of the Barruol family since 1490 with Louis Barruol now at the helm as the 14th generation winemaker. On top of all that their Gallo-Roman fermentation vats are perfectly preserved and they boast over 15 hectares of old vines which are farmed broadly following biodynamic principles. Their traditional wines are built to age and are some of the finest to be found anywhere in the Rhône Valley offering an almost unrivalled bang for the buck.
Little James’ Basket Press White is a gem of a wine. Aromatic and zingy Sauvignon Blanc is combined with rich and floral Viognier to create a wine with lots of juicy fruit. Honestly it tastes like an entire fruit basket ranging from citrus (lemon and grapefruit) to stone fruit (peach and apricot) and even tropical fruit (mango and lychee). But there are also delicate notes of mint star anise fennel and white flowers in this wonderfully layered wine. There’s something in here for everyone whether you’re a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc drinker a Pinot Grigio lover or a Rhône white connoisseur. Great on its own but equally wonderful with vibrant dishes (think Vietnamese) crunchy salads tangy ceviche or fresh fish.
