92 points “With pretty aromas of lavender rosehip strawberries cherries and cloves. It’s medium-bodied with crisp acidity and a supple creamy palate. Perfumed and elegant.” – James Suckling
91 points “It’s always an extremely refined rosé but this vintage seems to add an extra ounce of firmness and savoury food-friendly character.” – Tom Cannavan’s Wine-Pages.com
Whispering Angel is without a doubt the most iconic Provence rosé on the planet and its producer Château d’Esclans sets the benchmark for the entire category. Bottled holiday sunshine this luxurious vegan and immensely food friendly pink has the mass appeal that others can only dream of. Not only is it fast becoming the new Champagne for millennials but it’s also being loaded in huge volumes on to superyachts all over the Côte d’Azur and beyond not to mention countless listings on a who’s who roll call of the world’s hottest restaurants.
The critics seem to love this latest vintage as you can see above. Matthew Jukes called it: “a superb effort and on which tasted delicious already but which had a seam of nervy acidity which might propel it forwards for more than just one summer… with the trademark watermelon and pomegranate hints and a deeper and more structure mid-palate than was found on the lithe 2020 this is a more sophisticated wine than its crowd-pleasing predecessor.” The respected critic went on to say that Whispering Angel 2021 is “set to once again wow allcomers and this is encouraging news.” He has previously noted that Whispering Angel is “the most glamorous pink wine on the planet” and “you could drink it from midday to midnight”; something that we fully intend to do. This dramatic summer rosé is packed with raspberries and redcurrants pink grapefruit zest melon sorbet crunchy apple strawberries and cream crisp peach and orange blossom. All of this comes together in an experience that can only be compared to drinking pink silk.
The history of the blue-shuttered and hydrangea-surrounded Château d’Esclans dates back to the 12th Century but Sacha Lichine of the famous Bordeaux family revolutionised the estate in 2006 when he turned the focus on to premium rosé. Now its monumental Provence rosés are household names and quite simply must-haves.
