Jean-Claude Rouzaud, oenologist and Board Chairman of Champagne Louis Roederer, bought two properties in Saint-Estèphe in 1992 (Château Picard and Château Beauséjour), and turned them into Château Haut-Beauséjour. Although the 20-hectare estate is dominated by Merlot, the blend that makes up the Grand Vin in 2014 is 75% Cabernet Sauvignon. So, expect a powerful and voluptuous wine with lots of rich morello cherry, wild strawberry, crème de cassis, plum, tobacco, spice and smouldering fireplace notes.
