92 points “Suave coffee-cake and raisin aromas lead to a seamless palate of caramel and baked fruit with lovely citrus acidity to refresh and offset the sweetness.” – Decanter Magazine

Although Churchill’s 20 Years Old Tawny Port has obviously been aged in oak for two decades these were seasoned casks and so the wine retains an almost jaw-dropping freshness and brightness. The depth and complexity come from the original fruit which came from old vineyards in the Cima Corgo subregion of Douro. Displaying roasted almonds fancy glacé cherries rhubarb orange peel dried herbs mocha crème brûlée mince pie and grapefruit to quote Wine Advocate this Tawny Port “succeeds on class and finesse”. It makes a wonderful counterpoint to the heaviness of Christmas fare and cheeseboards not to mention nutty desserts fruitcake and pâté.

Johnny Graham of the W & J Graham’s Port family founded Churchill’s in the 1980s which then became the first new Port Shippers in Oporto for around 100 years. Johnny – who named the company after his wife Caroline Churchill – is acknowledged as one of the best blenders and tasters of Port in the business. As a result his boutique firm produces some of the highest quality and most individual expressions made today. These are fortified wines that in the company’s own words really do force you to “rethink Port”. No longer is this simply the drink of grandparents but a new movement that’s fun approachable and fiercely modern.
