Clase Azul Mezcal is crafted from Cenizo agave a variety that grows wild in the state of Durango in northern Mexico.

It’s a historic coming together of Mexican heritage. The ancient art of Mezcal reimagined by a company renowned for its luxurious Tequila filled into bottles carved by the hands of Mazahuas (the indigenous people inhabiting the north-western area of the State of Mexico and neighbouring Michoacán and Querétaro) and finished with a colourful cap fashioned from beeswax resin and beads by Wixáritari (the indigenous people living in the Sierra Madre Occidental range) artisans. It’s quite the collector’s item for a Mexiphile.

The liquid inside begins with wild Cenizo agave which takes 12-15 years to mature. This fibrous variety produces creamy Mezcal that is intensely exotic. These are cooked underground and milled by hand rather than using a donkey and tahona wheel to crush them. So it really is a labour of love. The result is wonderful expression of Durango’s terroir. Creamy peanut butter tangy citrus brown sugar green olive honey roasted agave campfire ash wood cloves tropical fruit milk chocolate and a gentle whiff of smoke; it’s a sensational and deeply complex drop. Consider pairing with ceviche mango salsa guacamole white chocolate salted nuts or a big bag of Harvey Nichols Chocolate Fruit & Nuts.

Clase Azul is famed for its superior agave-based spirits and the sensational works of art they bottle them in. Each luxurious ceramic decanter is handmade by a community of Mexican artisans from the farmers of the organic agave to the enormous team of painters in the town of Santa María Canchesdá. The attention to detail is unrivalled making their iconic bottles of Tequila and Mezcal some of the most admired and collectable the world has ever seen.
