The jaw-droppingly beautiful decanter is painted by the hands of the most highly skilled artisans in three precious metals: platinum silver and 24-carat gold. The painters are working almost blind because the paints don’t show on the dark background until after the decanter has been fired making each one a unique collector’s treasure.
The liquid inside begins with hand-selected Blue Weber agave that have matured for at least nine years. These are cooked with steam in stone ovens for 72 hours cooled and double fermented with a secret yeast known only to Clase Azul. It’s then distilled in copper pot stills triple filtered and aged for five years first in American whiskey casks and then in Spanish Sherry barrels. The Extra Añejo Tequila that emerges from that heavily charred oak is deep amber in colour with an astonishing smoothness. Aromatic wood agave syrup oxidised Sherry maple syrup hazelnut rich caramel vanilla dried apricot crème caramel cinnamon bun cherry ginger and sweet vanilla all seem to mingle together in this sensational spirit the experience is almost Cognac-esque. A Tequila like no other this should be sipped neat or served alongside braised meat rich mole earthy tacos mature cheese or the finest dark chocolate.
