Many of us love peated whisky but how often do we consider the environmental impact of that choice? Smoky whisky requires the burning of peat. This not only releases carbon into the atmosphere but also requires the cutting away of peatlands that have taken millennia to form are rich in biodiversity and represent one of nature’s invaluable carbon stores in the fight against the climate crisis. So a non-peated Scotch that actively protects peatlands is a delicious and ethical choice…

Creag Dhu is a non-peated Single Malt made by our friends at the Strathmashie Distillery who also make Daffy’s Gin. Matured for a minimum of eight years in the finest Sherry casks Creag Dhu tastes like Medjool dates peaches toffee apples coffee and walnut cake baklava autumn leaves golden sultanas and the gentlest waft of smoke. This creamy textured Scotch will appeal to fans of Dalwhinnie and Cardhu not to mention collectors keen to grab inaugural releases.

Each bottle of Creag Dhu donates money to preserving the peatlands of Scotland and comes with an official ‘Carbon Offset Certificate’. The latter was created in conjunction with the Peatland Code and offsets 10kg of carbon dioxide which is equivalent of 2 610 light bulb hours or 1 295 smartphone charges.

Located right in the centre of Scotland Creag Dhu is the iconic mountain next to the Strathmashie Distillery in the Cairngorms National Park overlooking the River Spey. This picturesque location has been captured on the equally dazzling box in a watercolour created by Tokyo-born artist Fumio Obata. On the wooden stopper you’ll discover a carving of one of the wild goats that graze around the cliffs of Creag Dhu. This attention to detail and deep connection to nature make is evident in every sip of this brand-new dram.
