“It’s expressive deliciously aromatic floral and elegant reflecting a cool year that delivered fresh wines that seem to be very approachable early on. 2016 is a pretty vintage but this wine is not banal; it has depth and complexity that's remarkable for the price point.” – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
Viña Real is crafted by Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España which is shortened to CVNE but was once misspelled and has been known as Cune (pronounced “coo-nay”) ever since. The wine was first launched in 1920 and is produced using grapes grown around Elciego in the heart of Rioja Alavesa. This area is known for its elegance and personality so consider this Rioja for the Burgundy lover (as the bottle shape suggests).
Aged in predominantly American oak for over a year Viña Real Crianza is a juicy blend of Tempranillo Garnacha Mazuelo and Graciano. We always enjoy its cherry blackberry blackcurrant and vanilla flavours flecked with floral and spicy notes on the finish. Offering incredible value for money this fits firmly into what we call the “weekday wonders” category.
