Introducing the inaugural bottling of what is to become an annual release of Dalmore’s new 21 Year Old expression.

This 2023 Edition was matured for 21 years in ex-Bourbon barrels before being transferred to the finest first-fill Matusalem Oloroso Sherry casks. The Sherry that came out of those casks is more than thirty years old and these rare barrels are exclusive to Dalmore, so there really isn’t another whisky on the planet quite like this one. The experience is like submerging your senses in bittersweet dark chocolate, marmalade, juicy peach, dark fruits wrapped in marzipan, Tarte Tatin and poire belle Hélène. It’s hard to think of a more satisfying dram. However, be warned that as 2023 is the first release in a new annual series, it’s sure to become highly collectable and therefore may not hang around for long.

As regal, resplendent and undeniably Scottish as the silver stag emblazoned across their bottles is, Dalmore is nothing short of legendary. Early owners of this distillery in Alness, just north of Inverness, came from Clan Mackenzie. Each bottle of Dalmore bears a twelve-point stag in honour of the Mackenzie’s Chief Colin of Kintail, who famously saved King Alexander III of Scotland from a charging buck and was rewarded the right to use this royal emblem. Fortune favours the brave apparently and if you’re looking for Dutch courage, this is a delicious way to obtain it. Especially considering the whiskies are made under the watchful eye of the iconic Master Distiller Richard Paterson, a man so skilled he once insured his nostrils for £1.6 million with Lloyd’s of London. The wonderfully mahogany Scotch he and his team produces at Dalmore is rich and full-bodied, making it the ultimate postprandial dram and a perfect partner to a cigar.
