Although Ballot-Millot may be more famed for their white wines we’ve thoroughly fallen in love with the Volnay Premier Cru Santenots. And we’re not alone some of the most knowledgeable critics in the business are raving about it…
91 points “An appealingly fresh nose combines notes of various red berries with those of spice and discreet earth wisps. There is a lovely sense of underlying vibrancy to the intense chiselled and stony flavours that terminate in a serious firm and built-to-age finale. Lovely.” – Allen Meadows Burghound
90 points “Pleasing sunshine feel.” – Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy
It hails from a half-hectare of vines and displays bright fruit rose petal and earthy spices. Although it will age beautifully it’s tastes wonderful right about now. We’ve got our eye on this one for Christmas day!
Based in the heart of the Côte de Beaune Charles Ballot runs the exemplary estate brought together by the union of his grandparents. Ballot-Millot owns an excellent array of vineyards from Chassagne-Montrachet to Pommard and employs a slow and gentle pressing which draws out only the finest juice and allows a little oxidation that protects the wine as it matures in oak barrels. For us the wines have always offered exceptional value for money punching above their weight while remaining inexplicably under-the-radar.
