93 points “A supple fleshy and seductive style.” – James Suckling

91 points “Delightful.” – Antonio Galloni’s Vinous

90 points “This is a delicious second wine one to get hold of and enjoy over the next five to seven years. Its luscious black fruits are effortless.” – Decanter Magazine

L’Esprit de Chevalier is the second wine of Domaine de Chevalier. It’s usually made from barrels that don’t quite have the structure and focus they are looking for in the Grand Vin. However 2015 was an exceptional vintage in Bordeaux which makes this second wine and intriguing and charming prospect. Bursting with black cherry cassis blackberry pencil shavings and cedar; it’s an exceptional red that we’d highly recommend for pairing with a Sunday roast or uncorking at a dinner party.

Domaine de Chevalier’s history dates back to the late-1800s but the really interesting part began when it was purchased by the Bernard family in 1983 for an inordinate amount of money. They began to buy up neighbouring plots and soon doubled the size of the holdings creating one large block of vines in Pessac-Léognan. The wines are made under the watchful eye of the incredibly respected Stéphane Derenoncourt – a self-taught vigneron of the highest standard.
