“The quality of the entry-level cuvée from this estate has soared over the past decade and the 2018 Châteauneuf Du Pape Télégramme is unquestionably an outstanding wine. Revealing a deep ruby/purple colour as well as Provençal notes of spiced blue fruits ground pepper garrigue and violets it has medium to full-bodied richness plenty of mid-palate depth (which can be lacking in a number of 2018s) notable balance and just a delicious Provençal ready-to-go style. It’s ideal for enjoying anytime over the coming 7-8 years.” – Jeb Dunnuck

Télégramme is the exceptional second wine of Vieux Télégraphe. We drink this Châteauneuf-du-Pape while we wait for the flagship red to come of age in the cellar.

Before we get started we just want to provide a dinner party fact to accompany this wine. People would use the word ‘STOP’ in telegrams because you paid extra for punctuation so it was cheaper to use another four letters. Every day is a school day.

Anyway back to the matter at hand. Télégramme comes from Vieux Télégraphe’s younger vines and some of the older vines that are not located on the plateaus of La Crau and Piedlong. The grapes are a blend of Grenache Syrah Mourvèdre and Cinsault. It’s matured in French oak for 15-16 months and bottled unfined and unfiltered making it full flavoured vegan friendly and just as nature intended. Brimming with red summer fruits brambles spices and dried herbs this is a silky and charming Châteauneuf-du-Pape perfect for a Sunday roast.

Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe run by the Brunier family are world-renowned Châteauneuf-du-Pape producers. As one of the oldest and greatest estates in this famous wine region their bottles are nothing short of legendary. It all started in 1891 when Henri Brunier gifted his son Hippolyte a few plots of land on the commanding La Crau plateau. It was an unusual present as the land was seen by most as being impossible to cultivate because of all the pebbles. But Hippolyte persevered and the rest is history. The name comes from the fact that this site was where the inventor of the optical telegraph Claude Chappe built one of his semaphore signal towers in 1821. The Brunier family also make stunning Marc du Châteauneuf-du-Pape Gigondas at Domaine Les Pallières Ventoux under the Mégaphone label Le Pigeoulet in Vaucluse and Massaya wines in Lebanon; all with the same loving care and attention.
