91 points “Derived from an optimally situated enclave within Les Encegnières the Bachelet brothers’ 2018 Puligny-Montrachet Les Aubues is showing beautifully mingling notes of citrus zest and white flowers with hints of green apple pastry cream and fresh bread. Medium to full-bodied satiny and incisive with fine depth at the core and a long tangy finish this has turned out very well.” – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

This “wonderfully refined” Puligny-Montrachet has been described by the respected critic Allen Meadows of Burghound as “a quality villages” a view echoed by Jasper Morris MW who called it “a beautiful village wine”. It comes from a vineyard in an outstanding location near the Grand Cru of Bâtard-Montrachet and touching Chassagne’s Les Encegnières. The result is a smooth and silky Chardonnay with notes of ripe lemon green apple blossom fresh baguette and rich ripe fruit white flowers green apple and mille-feuille. Rich and luscious this white would make a fine partner to roast poultry (especially if stuffed with citrus) simple risotto finished with a lemon zest buttery fish dishes or tagine with preserved lemons.

Brothers Jean-Baptiste and Benoît have now taken over from their father Jean-Claude Bachelet. Their winery is based in the hamlet of Gamay just next to the village of Saint-Aubin. With just ten hectares they produce half red and half white in very small volumes meaning that wines like this don’t hang around for long.
