Compendium has been created from seven different lieux-dits. Use of various parcels gives this immense complexity. Displaying intense aromatics of white flowers, beeswax and sea salt, the palate then unfurls into crunchy green apple, lime, marmalade, greengage and chalk. Wonderfully precise and crisp, this wine demonstrates why those-in-the-know are getting so excited about Saint-Aubin.
Saint Aubin used to be off the beaten track, but now it’s fast-becoming hot property in Burgundy. Here you’ll find Joseph Colin, son of Marc Colin who was one of the early pioneers in this area. In 2016 Joseph left the family business to branch out on his own, taking with him some plots in incredible locations including Chassagne-Montrachet. 2017 was his first full vintage and with a wealth of experience and confidence, he looks like one of Burgundy’s bright young sparks to watch. But don’t just take our word for it, Wine Advocate “encourage readers to acquaint themselves with his wines” too.
2020 was the third hot year in row in Burgundy, with many critics questioning whether the climate crisis is making this the norm now. Having said that, the whites turned out surprisingly fresh, vibrant and classic in style. Master of Wine and Burgundy expert Jasper Morris noted, “I am thrilled to report an almost universally successful vintage for the white wines!” And that makes this an exciting proposition.
