Don Julio Blanco Tequila is the base from which all their other Tequilas are made so it has to be exceptional. Wine Enthusiast awarded it 91 points placing it right up there with fine wines. This unaged ‘silver’ Tequila is one of our favourites for serving on taco night or for mixing into Margaritas. Wonderfully citrusy it’s brimming with lemon lime and grapefruit notes. There’s also grass floral honey crunchy pear sweet agave and a seasoning of pepper sea salt and baking spices. Consider sipping it alongside flavours from Veracruz (which often incorporate fresh herbs capers olives cinnamon and allspice) Baja tacos tostadas green pozole or a white chilli.
Don Julio’s founder Don Julio González-Frausto Estrada began distilling at the tender age of 17. Honing his craft for almost 40 years at his La Primavera distillery in the highlands of Jalisco he broke the mould of this being considered a drink for farmers and now most historians and aficionados recognise his as the first ever luxury Tequila.
