Wonderful well-aged Calvados from Famille Dupont.
1988 was a fine vintage for Dupont. Juice from 80% bittersweet apples and 20% acidic ones was fermented to create a cider which was then double distilled and slipped into toasted oak barrels to mature. What emerged decades later is a silky-smooth eau-de-vie with notes of apple pie vanilla floral honey roasted almonds orange marmalade and Sherry. This is a treasure to have in the collection because it makes a stunning aperitif lightly chilled an equally wonderful digestif at room temperature or because it is so gastronomic it can be sipped during a meal (think rustic French fare and comfort food). It’s also an amazing gift to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries from 1988.
The Dupont family owns 30 hectares of orchards in Normandy. There in the heart of the Pays d’Auge region they create vintage ciders apple juice sweet wine Calvados and the rarely seen on these shores Pommeau.
