95 points “Yes there’s the sumptuous oak that’s a hallmark of Guigal reds as well as a hedonistic chocolatey density of flavour. There’s red fruit and warm spice liquorice and earth and a meaty flavour akin to the crispy salty bits on the bottom of a roasting pan. But the standout element in this wine is its combination of steadfast tannic power and grace.” – Wine & Spirits Magazine

94 points “Aged 48 months in barrel it’s ruby/purple-coloured and has a killer nose of blackcurrants black raspberries smoked meats spice box vanillin and espresso. Rich full-bodied and powerful with background oak loads of fruit and ripe sweet tannins it shows the style of this vintage beautifully.” – Jeb Dunnuck

Hermitage is an iconic appellation and Guigal’s expression of this historic terroir displays everything we love about the Northern Rhône. That combination of juicy red and black fruit crème de cassis exotic spices crispy roast beef edges chocolate-covered coffee beans smoke leather antique furniture silk and velvet. We imagine that it’s what a luxurious Sunday roast round at Mr. Darcy’s house would taste like. We recommend grabbing this wine while stocks last tucking it into the cellar and promptly forgetting about it for 5-10 years.

E. Guigal is a simply legendary winery which has passed from founder Etienne to his son Marcel and now on to his grandson Philippe. According to Robert Parker it’s “a qualitative locomotive that has brought attention to the Rhône Valley raising the quality bar for the entire region.” And Parker has backed this up by awarding it more perfect 100-point scores than any other producer on the planet. Although famed for their Northern Rhône reds the whites are not to be missed either.
