2016 was an extraordinary vintage in Tuscany one of the highest ever rated by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. Fattoria Kappa’s winemaker used to make two of Italy’s most iconic wines: Cepparello at Isola e Olena and Guado al Tasso for Antinori.
Combine these two facts and this estate’s flagship “Kappa” Rosso Toscana IGT becomes a very exciting proposition. A Bordeaux-style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc Syrah Petit Verdot and Merlot matured in oak for 14 months it’s dense creamy and rich. Expect ripe berries crème de cassis cinnamon buns liquorice tar chocolate coffee and a leathery finish. We recommend pairing it with rich meaty dishes slow-cooked stews comfort food and anything grilled or barbequed.
Fattoria Kappa was born out of a dream two Austrian friends had to make affordable wine in Tuscany. They wanted to make wines like John Lennon made songs – skilfully crafted but universally appealing. So they enlisted the help of Andrea di Maio the former winemaker of the Cepparello and Guado al Tasso. Located halfway between Pisa and Tuscany’s legends in Bolgheri Kappa hails from a four-hectare vineyard that faces the sea and is based on soils packed with fossils which gives the wines a lovely minerality and freshness.
