Part of Feudi di San Gregorio’s ‘Classics’ range, this Falanghina del Sannio more than lives up to that moniker. Minerality, zesty lemons, white flowers, crunchy stone fruit, a splash of balsamic and a crisply refreshing acidity that will cut through even the stodgiest of fare. Guaranteed to get the juices flowing if served as an aperitif, but equally as wonderful with steamed greens, appetisers, fresh cheeses or (our personal favourite) deep-fried foods like tempura, croquettes or fish and chips.

Feudi di San Gregorio is Southern Italy’s leading winery. Established in 1986, they’ve been creating some of the country’s most exciting wines for over three decades. Their viticulture and winemaking are overseen by Pierpaolo Sirch, who is one half of Simonit & Sirch, the expert pruning team that work with and advise the likes of Leroy, Louis Roederer, Ornellaia, Hennessy Cognac, Château d’Yquem, Château Angélus, Château Latour, Château Ausone, Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, Moët & Chandon, Domaines Ott, Torbreck, Henschke, Klein Constantia and many more. So, although Feudi de San Gregorio may not be quite such a household name, their wines sit alongside the world’s finest.

Feudi di San Gregorio is responsible for resurrecting the Irpinia appellation in the minds of wine lovers around the world. Vineyards in this area of Campania have coexisted with fruit trees, woodlands, olive trees and wild herbs since Roman times. Located in the Apennine Mountains, the climate is more Nordic than what would traditionally be considered Italian, and this creates high-acid wines that mature slowly and beautifully. The centuries-old vineyards that they work with render wines of thrilling complexity unlike any others to be found on the planet.

In 2021, Feudi di San Gregorio was awarded the Equalitas certification, which officially recognises social, environmental and economic pillars of sustainability, through biodiversity, carbon and water footprint and ecological cultivation practices. The winery in the town of Sorbo Serpico, designed by the Japanese architect Hikaru Mori, should be on the bucket list of any fine wine connoisseur. Its interiors were created by the designers Massimo and Lella Vignelli, who also contribute to the winery’s stunning labels, alongside other great artists, because Feudi di San Gregorio believe that every bottle of wine is a work of art.
