“Fonseca is one of the great Port lodges producing the most exotic and most complex Port. If Fonseca lacks the sheer weight and power of a Taylor Dow or Warre or the opulent sweetness and intensity of a Graham it excels in its magnificently complex intense bouquet of plummy cedary spicy fruit and long broad expansive flavours. With its lush seductive character one might call it the Pomerol of Vintage Ports.” – Robert Parker Wine Advocate

Too often overlooked in favour of one of the more famous and more tannic producers Fonseca is one of our all-time favourites. This 1983 is gorgeously scented with quite an unusual creamy texture. Consider pairing its chocolate fig prune raisin and walnut flavours with a cheeseboard or with festive fare over the Christmas period.

While tasting one of Fonseca’s famous Ports respected wine critic Matthew Jukes wrote “We should all drink more Port as it’s one of the world’s most iconic wine styles.” So enthralled by this great Port house he went on to describe them as a “swaggering talent”. So what better way could there be to experience this “swaggering talent” and “drink more Port” than by adding one of their Vintage Ports to your wine rack forthwith.

Owned by The Fladgate Partnership who also look after Taylor’s and Croft Fonseca has a cult following. It remains the choice of those in-the-know maybe precisely because it has a slightly lower profile than its stable mates. However this is very much a Port House firing on all cylinders; the quality of their Ports is through the roof and should not be missed.
