95 points “Big rich creamy-textured pinot gris with pear quince ginger toasted nut and barrel fermentation character. Serious wine with weight and complexity. A serious pinot gris with character.” – Bob Campbell MW
It’s no secret that we are big fans of Framingham – they make our wonderful Harvey Nichols Marlborough Pinot Noir – but their entire wine range is awesome as proven by them being named ‘Winery of the Year 2019’ by the New Zealand wine expert Bob Campbell MW.
And it’s wines like this cheeky Pinot Gris that have critics and wine lovers so excited. In fact Bob Campbell MW rated this the best New Zealand Pinot Gris of the vintage. Don’t expect an austere Pinot Grigio this has been crafted in a richer riper almost Alsace-like style. This results in an unctuous combo of ripe pear stewed apple quince jelly apricots peaches custard ginger bread hazelnut yeasty dough and a touch of woodsmoke. It’s just phenomenal stuff and more than a match for curries and pork dishes of all kinds.
The Framingham label was launched in 1994 which makes them sound like relative newcomers. But they actually have some of the oldest vines in Marlborough New Zealand planted in 1981. Named after their ancestral home just outside Norwich in England Framingham make the wine they want to drink. And that passion is obvious in every aromatic food-friendly small-batch drop they create.
