This almost luminous pink rosé is crafted predominantly from Nebbiolo – Italy’s answer to Pinot Noir and a grape used to create big hitters like Barolo and Barbaresco. Sometimes Nervi add a splash of a local grape variety called Uva Rara, which is just as much fun to say as it is to drink. The result is packed with intense wild strawberry, raspberry sorbet, crisp cherry, blossom, fresh basil, tangy pink grapefruit and a pinch of spice. We’ve just found our rosé for barbeque season, strawberries and cream, panzanella, and caprese salad in the sunshine.
Nervi is the oldest winery in Gattinara that is still producing. In 2018, Roberto Conterno – owner of the Barolo legend Giacomo Conterno – bought a 90% stake in it, which should tell you just how good this winery and its prime vineyards in the Gattinara DOCG are. He had been working as a consultant oenologist here and recognised the incredible quality. This rosé is made using some grapes from some of Nervi’s top crus, such as Molsino and Valferana. These are plots that you would expect to be saved for their top reds, making this a very serious rosato.
