GLENDRONACH 29 Year Old Grandeur Batch 12 Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Grandeur Batch 12 marks the newest release in the GlenDronach calendar and this 2023 limited edition is, according to the team, “one of its most luxurious expressions to date”. The rich and exquisite representation is a 29-year-old single malt crafted from a small number of Oloroso sherry casks, carefully selected by Master Blender, Dr. Rachel Barrie, to impart a magnificently luxurious character and full-bodied style.
The highly anticipated Grandeur series is acclaimed and revered by connoisseurs and malt whisky aficionados and this batch is sure to be no exception. The dark mahogany hue delivers rich sherry aromas alongside notes of seductive cocoa, damson, plum and glazed cherry. Notes of powerful cocoa meld harmoniously with medjool dates, roasted coffee, treacle, zesty clementine and candied ginger in a richly rewarding tobacco and sherry-soaked walnut finish. Bottled at 49.2 ABV with its rich natural colour drawn from the casks, it has rested in for almost 30 years and the limited-edition expression is individually numbered to reflect its rarity.
GlenDronach’s history has been a tumultuous one. Burned to the ground a decade after it was founded, bounced from hand to hand like a hot potato, mothballed and resurrected, it keeps coming back like the Terminator. However, since being taken under the wing of The Benriach Distillery Company and more recently Brown-Forman, things have settled down in the valley of Forgue, Aberdeenshire. Whisky maker Rachel Barrie has produced a procession of exceptional, richly sherried single malts with each release displaying even more character than the last. Rachel Barrie’s father is particularly partial to a GlenDronach and she was raised just down the road so this is one of the first distilleries she ever tasted and one that she is therefore incredibly passionate about.
