This is old school heavily sherried Scotch at its rich leathery fruitcake-packed best. It’s no coincidence that GlenDronach released Grandeur Batch 11 just as minds start to turn towards Christmas. Not only is it extremely giftable with its gold wax seal and elegant walnut box but it’s also packed with festive wintry flavours: Christmas cake fig cherry chocolate liqueurs gingerbread roasted chestnuts damson praline Sherry manuka honey toasted almonds and plum crumble. And beneath all that pudding there’s also a wonderful savoury edge of polished antique furniture leather-bound books old-fashioned boot polish walnuts and coffee. People are often chastised for saying “they don’t make them like this anymore” but when it comes to whiskies like GlenDronach’s Grandeur it’s totally true.

Batch 11 of this 28-year-old expression has been expertly curated by Master Blender Rachel Barrie using some of the oldest and most unique Oloroso Sherry casks in GlenDronach’s reserves. Only 3 181 hand numbered bottles have been filled so don’t miss out.

GlenDronach’s history has been a tumultuous one. Burned to the ground a decade after it was founded bounced from hand to hand like a hot potato mothballed and resurrected it keeps coming back like the Terminator. However since being taken under the wing of The BenRiach Distillery Company and more recently Brown-Forman things have settled down in the valley of Forgue Aberdeenshire. Whisky maker Rachel Barrie has produced a procession of exceptional richly sherried single malts with each release displaying even more character than the last. Rachel Barrie’s father is particularly partial to a GlenDronach and she was raised just down the road so this is one of the first distilleries she ever tasted and one that she's therefore incredibly passionate about.
