Still managed by William’s descendants Glenfiddich continue to evolve improve and innovate and the whiskies released have never been better. This particular release is a 21 year old bottling from Glenfiddich that has been finished in casks used previously to age Caribbean Rum. The rum-soaked cask infuses the aged whisky with a spicy warmth and indulgent vanilla and toffee sweetness with the character of the Caribbean evident. This gives the whisky a sumptuous sweet intensity that is both rich and creamy yet still retains the unmistakeable character of Glenfiddich. On the nose intense aromas of vanilla and spice combine with floral notes buttered brioche honeysuckle and hints of banana. The palate is sweet and rich with an oily mouthfeel and a good balance of toasty oak and orchard fruit along with some orchard fruit dark chocolate and caramel flavours. An outstanding quality elegantly presented dram this would make a fine gift for single malt enthusiasts.
