We thought Grant Burge’s 10 Year Old Tawny tasted like liquid Christmas then they went and doubled it with the 20 Year Old Tawny.

Awarded 95 points by James Halliday’s Wine Companion and crowned Best International Fortified Wine at the Decanter World Wine Awards in 2004 2007 2010 and 2012 this is simply sensational stuff.

Australia has a long and glorious history of fortified wine making in fact that was how many of the oldest wineries Down Under began. So those looking for an alternative to Port may want to consider Grant Burge’s 20 Year Old Tawny especially over the festive period. Crafted from a classic blend of Barossa Grenache Mourvèdre (Mataro) and Shiraz it has been matured to a tawny style in old French oak barrels for an average of two decades. And the result is one of the most festive fine wines we’ve ever had the pleasure of tasting. Sweet luscious and dense; it coats the mouth with notes of chestnuts roasting on an open fire Christmas pudding and brandy butter nutty Sherry mince pies salted caramel marzipan fruitcake vanilla oak and marmalade. Serve this alongside mince pies Christmas pudding or blue cheese all through the festive season and beyond.

Located in the very beating heart of South Australia’s Barossa Valley Grant Burge was established in 1988 and has rapidly risen to become a five-star winery according to James Halliday’s Wine Companion. In fact it has been awarded that elite status for eleven consecutive years. With access to some of the oldest vines in the area Grant Burge is classic Barossa.
