“Grosset Polish Hill Riesling stands out as a defining style and champion for the modern-day Australian wine aesthetic.” – Langton’s

Grosset’s Polish Hill Riesling is always iconic, but the 2021 is something really special if the following reviews are anything to go by…

98 points, “An exceptional vintage for this wine, with such intense aromas of lime and sweet flowers, as well as hints of white nectarine and wet stone in the background. The palate has density and sleekly refined shape that drives so long. Lime juice throughout, and some almost pithy density builds into the finish, supported by driving acidity.” – James Suckling

97 points, “The lime blossom perfume of the bouquet sets the scene for a palate of precision and linear power, crisp acidity drawing out the long, lingering finish and aftertaste. Lime, lemon and apple all add their part. Will develop gloriously.” – James Halliday

This is a little more restrained than previous vintages. But there’s still powerful lime juice, smashed slate, lime blossom, lavender, violets and smoked sea salt. Interestingly, three are three kinds of Riesling in this vineyard, two German clones and one rare local clone, making it a highly unusual Aussie white. Bottled unfiltered and unfined, this is exquisite with vibrant Vietnamese dishes, tacos, tangy ceviche, smoked foods and sushi.

For almost four decades Grosset has been producing some of Australia’s finest white wines. The steely Rieslings they create from their organic vineyards in Clare Valley age magnificently. Decanter Magazine rates found Jeffrey Grosset as one of the “Top 10 White Winemakers” in the world. Robert Parker has described the Polish Hill Riesling as “the finest Riesling I have ever tasted from Australia”, and both Polish Hill and Springvale feature in the Langton’s Classification – the “honour roll” of Australian fine wines. According to Jancis Robinson, Jeffrey Grosset “has set a gold standard for Australian Riesling with dry wines of enormous extract and ageing potential.”
