Talk to anyone in the fine wine industry about the best English wine and one name just keeps cropping up – Gusbourne.

The elegantly styled wines produced by winemaker Charlie Holland have seen this Kent-based winery named English Wine Producer of the Year by the International Wine & Spirit Competition no less than three times in five years making it the only three-time winner of this award ever. As well as collecting an impressive haul of medals Gusbourne’s wines have also emerged victorious when pitted against Champagnes in blind tastings attended by the world’s most prestigious wine critics. The chic art deco-esque bottle designs have an effortlessly graceful and understatedly English feel to them and their Rosé is – in our opinion – one of the finest wines being produced on these shores.

A Pinot Noir-dominated blend the Rosé 2016 has been aged on the lees for at least 36 months and a small percentage of barrel-aged red wine was added before the second fermentation to obtain the coppery salmon colour which is reminiscent of the delicacy of Provence rosé. The result has a crystalline clarity a creamy texture and a long crisp refreshing finish. It’s as if the team at Gusbourne have captured the height of a classic British summer in a bottle there’s strawberries and cream crunchy red cherries tangy redcurrants and raspberries fresh flowers and crisp red apple. An extremely serious rosè that would be best enjoyed alongside smoked salmon duck or truffle-based dishes.
