All three wines come from 2018 a vintage that is now drinking beautifully and has been rated as “outstanding” for both whites and reds by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. The case opens with a classic and “highly enjoyable” (Decanter Magazine) Chablis from the iconic Domaine Billaud-Simon. This producer was purchased by the legendary Domaine Faiveley in 2014 ramping up its credentials even further. This is followed by Domaine Chanson’s Bourgogne Chardonnay an estate that was bought by Champagne Bollinger who have invested heavily and also brought in the expertise of Jean-Pierre Confuron (a winemaker who has been ranked alongside the likes of Aubert de Villaine and Bernard Noblet of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and the fabulous Lalou Bize-Leroy by France’s leading wine critic Michel Bettane). This floral Chardonnay with its racy citrus orchard fruit and exotic pineapple has summer lunches written all over it. And finally we have a Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge from Domaine Joseph Colin. The experts at Wine Advocate “encourage readers to acquaint themselves with his wines”. We find that Joseph Colin’s refreshing and crunchy reds are always a summer favourite especially when served gently chilled straight out of the cellar alongside light lunches.
