We asked our expert Wine Buyers, Andrew Duncan and Bryan Rodriguez, what they’ll be drinking this holiday season. Their answer was this case.

Harvey Nichols is proud to introduce the eleventh instalment in our ever-popular Wine Buyers’ Picks series: the ‘Christmas Special’.

You’ll be dreaming of a white Christmas after the first three wines. The whites start with a legendary Riesling from Kilikanoon. Mort Mitchell planted this revered producer’s first block over 40 years ago. The fruit from those old vines is used to create Mort’s Block Watervale Riesling – one of Australia’s best value and most underrated wines. If you don’t drink it this Christmas, don’t worry, because it can age for 20 years or more. Next up, we have a Godello from Rafael Palacios. His dazzling wines set the benchmark by which other Iberian whites are judged. Silky and concentrated, Louro Do Bolo needs to be tasted to be believed because it’s hard to do justice to its complexity with the English language. And our last white is Isabel Estate’s Chardonnay made by the heroic Jeremy McKenzie. (That’s not an exaggeration, as well as being a father of three and one of the greatest Kiwi winemakers, he also finds time to compete in ironman competitions, participate in extreme sports, disarm illegal poachers and rescue children from floods.) The oaky Chardonnay he creates on what is one of the oldest estates in Marlborough will make a fine match to turkey and all the trimmings.

Our Wine Buyers like to use the festive frivolities as an excuse to break out the big reds. So, for your delectation they have picked out three of their finest. The first is the Rosso dei Notri from Tua Rita. It’s a blend of organically farmed Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah that is much-loved by the critics at Wine Advocate, who inevitably finish their reviews each year with a line like: “You can't beat this excellent value from Tuscany.” It will be delicious with anything from pizza to the Christmas leftovers. Getting a little chunkier, we move on to the Mendel Cabernet Franc. Château Cheval Blanc is probably one of the most sought-after Cabernet Franc-based wines in the world. Mendel’s winemaker, Roberto de la Mota, used to work there, so he really knows his way around this grape variety. This peppery red makes a great partner to comfort food, hearty stews and roasts of any kind. And last, but not least, there’s Ben Glaetzer’s Wallace. This modern take on Australia’s classic Shiraz and Grenache blend is a both a winter warmer and crowd pleaser extraordinaire. Cold nights don’t seem so bad with a glass of this.

This magnificent around-the-world case is the perfect Christmas present for the wine lover in your life and an even better ‘self gift’ if that’s you.
