Hattingley Valley’s owner Simon Robinson wasn’t too keen on making a rosé. But when his winemaker Emma Rice won the Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championship award for ‘Best Vintage Rosé in the World’ he began to take it a lot more seriously. Now this is one of Simon’s favourites wines. And we love it too.

Crafted from Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes Hattingley Valley Rosé 2018 is a summer smasher. A small proportion was fermented in old Burgundy barrels imparting a glorious richness and texture. A splash of red Pinot Précoce (an early-ripening descendent of Pinot Noir) is added to enhance the colour body and flavour. Then it undergoes a second fermentation in the bottle (the traditional method) and is aged on the lees (the spent yeast that gives quality sparkling wine that nutty and bready character) for 24 months before disgorgement.

Bursting with bracing acidity persistent bubbles and a luxuriously high-quality finish this English Sparkling Wine elegantly dances across the palate with fleet feet of buttered toast summery red berries strawberry coulis and creamy mille-feuille pastry. It’s a perfect accompaniment to the tennis strawberries and cream sunshine and good times. This vegan-friendly stunner hails from the chalky soils of Hampshire and should not be missed.
