It’s not one of those power-packed Margaret River styles thanks to fruit sourcing from the cooler southern part of Margaret River. It’s a picture of elegance and restraint but with delicious detail thanks to the application of all the winemaking tricks seen in the best Chardonnay including natural ferment in French oak before significant lees ageing. Fruit is in the honeydew melon and citrus zone even orange peel with some delicatessen funk in the background plus classy oak. So it’s seriously complex with good fruit concentration nicely balanced by fine acidity with tinges of biscotti to finish. The cloud cover and southerly breezes keep this site cool allowing slow ripening that leads to immense complexity and a gorgeous freshness. The wine is barrel fermented and matured in French oak on the lees for 10 months so you can expect fig melon lemon meringue pie vanilla oatmeal brioche nougat chalk caramel and almond croissant notes. Finishing up with a twist of bright and refreshing citrus this wine feels like it leans more towards Burgundy’s influence than to that of the traditional Aussie blockbuster style.
