Tasting Notes
The Montefalco area of Umbria has been famed for its wines and olive oils since ancient times. Sagrantino is indigenous to this region and the pioneering Adanti family were one of the first to master this ‘sacred’ and tannic grape variety. And that makes this something rather special…
Il Domenico Montefalco Sagrantino Riserva 2008 is dedicated to the founder of the winery, Domenico Adanti. It’s crafted from pure Sagrantino harvested from a vineyard in the hills of Colcimino and aged in oak for 36 months, followed by two years in the bottle before release. The result is muscular, powerful and concentrated. The long ageing has tamed Sagrantino’s big tannins, creating a thoroughbred that ripples with black fruit, tobacco, spice, coffee and graphite. We recommend serving it with slow-cooked stews, rich dishes like Mexican mole, or hearty comfort food on a cold and rainy night.
