The critics have spoken. This is one of the most glorious Bollingers to ever walk the Earth.

2008 was an outstanding year in Champagne, with expert Richard Juhlin noting: “The weather gods were in their best mood this year… An absolutely gorgeous vintage that has it all… I have a hard time imagining anything other than buying everything you see of this vintage.” So, much was expected from Bollinger’s Grande Année. And it didn’t disappoint. Expect white peach, pear, plum, greengage, tangy lemons, chamomile and jasmine tea, honeysuckle, the honey and walnut combination of baklava, toasted hazelnuts, dunked Digestive biscuits and the salty, yeasty tang of Manzanilla. And that’s just tasting it now. This will continue to develop and improve for decades and decades to come.

Hailing from entirely Grand and Premier Cru sites, this is a blend of 71% Pinot Noir (mainly Aÿ and Verzenay) and 29% Chardonnay (mainly Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Cramant) that was fermented in oak, riddled by hand and disgorged manually. This is handmade Champagne of the highest order, especially in this magnum format.

Champagne Bollinger was founded in 1829 by Jacques Bollinger, and soon earned a reputation for quality. Under subsequent generations, its reputation has gone from strength to strength, and today it’s one of the most prestigious of all Champagne brands. Stylistically, Bollinger is renowned for its rich and savoury style.
