97 points, “This beautifully sparkling 2008 is surprisingly light in colour, but will surely deepen towards more golden tones in the near future a little further from its fresh disgorgement date. The colossal and wonderful scent is of such dignity that words can never do it full justice. If I do try to describe this unique perfume, it is dominated by hazelnut cream from Piedmont, Domori chocolate from Venezuela, madeleine cookies, almond paste, wood sauna, gunpowder, grilled beef, duck liver, honeysuckle, mushroom cream, honey and nougat. It takes a long time in the glass before the fruit appears and at the same time the nutty and grilled aromas tone down a bit. The taste is vibrantly fresh while being rich and grilled nutty. Here, minerality and sea aromas such as iodine and oyster shells show up together with an apricot-like sublime fruitiness. After a fresh attack, my senses are left supremely satisfied with an exemplary long aftertaste of honey.” – Richard Juhlin

Richard Juhlin is one of the world’s leading Champagne experts, holding the world record for the most Champagne ever tasted (13,000+ unique Champagnes in his lifetime in case you were wondering). So, when he gives a score like that and such a glowing tasting note, you know it has to be something special. The critics love it, we love it and anybody else who tastes it is sure to do the same.

Most Champagne houses keep a small collection of old wines for their family, friends and special guests. This is Bollinger’s, and they’re inviting you into that circle of the chosen few to be able to taste it. Traditionally these wines were disgorged only a short time before drinking them. When Madame Bollinger realised just how good they were she knew she had to share them and Bollinger R.D. – “Recently Disgorged” – was born. It set a precedent as the first Champagne to bear a disgorgement date.

This was handcrafted from a blend of 71% Pinot Noir and 29% Chardonnay drawn from 18 crus, but predominantly from the Grands Crus of Aÿ and Verzenay for the Pinot Noir and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Cramant for the Chardonnay. Fermented entirely in oak and aged for about 14 years before being disgorged and released, Bollinger R.D. 2008 is a one-of-a-kind from a much-hyped vintage. Concentrated and wine-like, there’s French pastries, roasted chestnut, Mirabelle plums, apple pie, lemon zest, dried apricot, praline, tobacco, smoke, vanilla, marzipan, baklava, nougat, clotted cream, Earl Grey tea and brioche spread with Nutella. The perfect balance of freshness and maturity, this is just an absolute delight to drink now or over the next 15 years.

Champagne Bollinger was founded in 1829 by Jacques Bollinger, and soon earned a reputation for quality. Under subsequent generations, its reputation has gone from strength to strength, and today it is one of the most prestigious of all Champagne brands. Stylistically, Bollinger is renowned for its rich and savoury style of wines.
