Tasting Notes
Cargo Cult Spiced Rum is a small batch rum from the South Pacific and the name pays reference to events in the South Pacific during World War II. Islanders were living with little contact with the outside world when they saw a fabulous wealth of goods rain from the sky as the American Army parachuted in tons of supplies ahead of the arrival of its troops. The islanders had never seen such a bounty and even after the cessation of hostilities, continued to worship the "cargo cult" in the belief that the gods would again deliver the goods they'd so enjoyed during the war. The rum itself is composed of distillates from Papua New Guinea and Fiji, which are then blended and spiced in Australia. With no added sugar, its botanicals like ginger, cardamom and clove are very evident on the deeply spicy nose, with ginger cake and spiced raisin aromas. The palate’s punchy, with a big hit of spice and alcohol before some juicy lime joins the party, with only the slightest hint of sweetness, and a touch of bitterness to finish. That lack of excessive sweetness makes Cargo Cult an outstanding rum to use in cocktails.
