Tasting Notes
Foral de Évora’s name pays homage to Évora’s long wine-producing history, referencing the royal decree for winemaking granted to the city in 1501 by King Manuel I.
Foral de Évora Tinto is a blend of Alicante Bouschet, Aragonez and Trincadeira aged in French and American oak for twelve months. Alicante Bouschet is cross formed partly from Grenache, Aragonez is another name for Tempranillo and Trincadeira is a much-loved grape variety used in Port. So, imagine a Portuguese twist on Rioja with the oomph of a youthful Port. Fruity and full-bodied, it’s brimming with concentrated red berries, black cherry, spice and exuberance.
Cartuxa is one of the oldest wine producers in Portugal. Located in Évora, a sub-region of Alentejo, its Quinta de Valbom site has been growing grapes since 1517. So, this is a winery steeped in history. Now run by the Eugénio de Almeida family, it has expanded to the impressive size of 1,050 hectares of vineyards spread across four sites.
