  • 93 points, “Set to be one of the bargains of the vintage.” – Tim Atkin
  • 93 points, “This is a delightful wine.” – Wine Enthusiast

2011 Château Langoa Barton is densely packed with raspberry, chocolate, cassis, oak spices, graphite and the comforting notes of toast just popped. The wine equivalent of elegant evening wear, this is a pleasure to slip into for special occasions. Consider pairing with fillet steak with a pepper or blue cheese sauce, seared duck with a red wine and raspberry reduction, or truffled mushrooms on toasted sourdough.

The Irish Barton family have had a well-respected presence in Bordeaux since the early 18th Century. Purchasing the Saint-Julien property Pontet-Langlois in 1822, they promptly renamed it Château Langoa Barton. They then rolled on to create stable mate Chateau Leoville Barton, which shares the same cellar as their previous acquisition. The vineyards of Langoa Barton are slightly cooler than those of Leoville Barton making it ever so slightly lighter bodied, so is perfect for people who prefer a more elegant style. But what makes Langoa Barton really special is its provenance; it is the only château ranked in the 1855 Classification to still be in hands of the same family today. So you are in experienced hands with this fine bottle.
