Liqueur de Cassis de Mouton Rothschild
Château Mouton-Rothschild is the most glitzy of the First Growths and the only wine to have ever been upgraded in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. According to Wine Advocate: “Mouton is unashamedly gregarious, flamboyant and melodramatic… a splash of colour in what can be a monochromatic region.” And the same certainly applies to their rare bottling of Liqueur de Cassis.
Renowned for producing wines of incredible balance, depth and longevity, not to mention pizazz. But few people realise that they also make a tiny quantity of fine spirits. Liqueur de Cassis de Mouton Rothschild is crafted from fresh blackcurrants grown in the Château’s orchards. These are crushed, sweetened with sugar and fortified with the estate’s Eaux de Vie. Usually reserved only for guests visiting the Château Mouton Rothschild and for serving at special events, this rare liqueur is delicious to sip on its own, or mixed with Champagne for the most decadent take on the Kir Royale imaginable. Presented in an individual wood box with the First Growth’s crest, each bottle is individually numbered, making this a unique gift idea for fine wine and rare spirits collectors alike.
