Grand Vin Margaux 2017
96+ points, “Medium to deep garnet-purple coloured, the 2017 Rauzan-Ségla rocks up with vibrant notions of cherry pie, warm cassis, blackberry preserves and red roses with hints of cinnamon stick and cloves. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is completely filled with wonderfully pure red and black fruits, framed by firm, very ripe, fine-grained tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and spicy. Yum!” – Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW for Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
94 points, “Plainly speaking, bloody delicious.” – Neal Martin for Vinous Media
94 points, “Cinnamon, saffron, black truffles, toasted oak, cedar and damson; this is definitely a pretty sexy take on the vintage.” – Jane Anson for Decanter
Château Rauzan-Ségla is owned by Chanel and is therefore the most fashionable Grand Vin in all of Bordeaux. The wines at this much-loved chic Margaux estate are made by Nicolas Audebert, who has worked at Krug and Louis Vuitton-Moët-Hennessy’s Cheval des Andes, and he’s also involved with Chanel’s Château Canon in Bordeaux and Domaine de l’Ile on the island of Porquerolles. See what chic circles this brand moves in!
2017 was a vintage in which frost hit volumes in Bordeaux, so as Jancis Robinson notes, “even though some very good wines were made, […] quantities were limited”. As the scores and reviews from the critics will tell you, Château Rauzan-Ségla 2017 is a fabulous wine, but sadly there is very little around. So, don’t miss out on the opportunity to capture a bottle or two.
Founded in 1661 by Pierre de Rauzan in the heart of the Margaux appellation, Château Rauzan-Ségla is one of Bordeaux’s top performing châteaux. With its unique experience in luxury goods, Chanel, who acquired the property in 1994, endeavours to exalt the unique and precious qualities of this great vineyard. It’s incomparable rich bouquet, silky intense tannins and elegant taste make Rauzan-Ségla a wine of exceptional quality and enviable reputation. Somewhat underestimated by its outdated Deuxieme Cru Classé status, it’s consistently the top wine of the appellation after Palmer and Château Margaux itself.
