Grand Vin Saint-Julien 2017 - Château Gloria

Château Gloria

Grand Vin Saint-Julien 2017

94 points, “The 2017 Gloria is just as delicious from bottle as it was from barrel. A rush of bright red cherry and plum fruit, blood orange, iron, dried flowers and mint gives the 2017 its sense of energy. Medium in body and full of character, Gloria is one of the highlights of the vintage. Don't miss it.” – Antonio Galloni

Glorious Gloria. Even the label blows its own trumpet. And that fanfare is fully justified…

This château was painstakingly built by Henri Martin, piecing together Grands Crus plots as ranked in the 1855 Classification from across the appellation. The property also has a few hectares in Pauillac amongst Bordeaux’s big boys, which they have a special dispensation to use in the final blend. Although unclassified itself, Château Gloria more than stands up to its ancient peers and in many vintages surpasses them at a lower price point.

Always ripe and approachable, this medium-bodied wine has it all: juicy blackberry and cherry, refreshing red berries, crème de cassis, fragrant hoisin spice, cedar, marmalade, incense, menthol, rosemary, cigar box, earthy forest floor, violets and a comfortingly meaty note of warming oxtail soup. A great Bordeaux to add to the cellar and consider opening from 2023.
