A captivating rosé, created from a blend of Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Mourvèdre and Rolle grown organically and biodynamically on a UNESCO recognised site, and rested for three months in French oak. Its motto “Non Mihi, Non Tibi, Sed Nobis” (shared with the London Borough of Battersea, oddly enough) means: neither for myself, nor for yourself, but for us. In other words, this is a wine made for sharing.
Located in a secluded mountain saddle above the village of Crestet, north-east of Avignon, Chêne Bleu lies at 550m above sea level, making it one of the highest vineyards in the Vaucluse region. To make the site even more special, UNESCO recognised the region as a Biosphere Reserve – the domaine is therefore ringed by a pine and oak forest protecting it from pollution and wildlife thrives. The vinery owes its name, literally “blue oak”, to a magnificent ancient oak tree that presides over the vineyard. Having suffered from the drought in 2005, the tree was painted with the bouille bordelaise by Marco Nucera, a worldwide famous tree sculptor.
This is a highly complex and full-bodied wine, with an expressive nose of raspberry, redcurrant, pink grapefruit, lime, exotic fruit and jasmine. A very serious rosé – as demonstrated by its long and citrusy finish – that will be a perfect accompaniment to lightly spiced dishes, summer salads, tagines, tapas or Provençal lamb.£3.27 per 100.00ml
