Following in the footsteps of Daffy’s Geranium Rhubarb & Rose and Orange Blossom Gins – all of which have long since sold out – comes the vibrant warming and herbal Mountain Foraged Gin. But with only around 700 limited-edition bottles made you’ll have to be fast to catch it.
Daffy’s Mountain Foraged Gin is available exclusively through Harvey Nichols and was made using ingredients handpicked on the mountain of Creag Dhu which towers over the Strathmashie Distillery. The botanicals were foraged across the four seasons so there’s heather myrtle birch wild strawberries Scots pine and yarrow in the mix. Mirroring the wild beauty of the mountain this nature-loving gin is bracing invigorating and verdant. The nose is bursting with juniper citrus garden herbs and a rather Christmassy pine tree note. On the palate comes myrtle (think juniper rosemary and eucalyptus) bay leaf floral heather and those wonderfully intense wild strawberries. Somehow every sip makes us feel more alive and eager to get out into a green space.
Each gift box comes with a 200ml bottle of gin and a goblet into which you can mix plenty of ice gin and your favourite premium tonic. To garnish we highly recommend a sprig of rosemary. Alternatively mix this into a Bee’s Knees using heather honey for a cocktail that feels like a walk through a meadow.
Daffy is the Goddess of Gin. First written about in the 1700s her essence has been distilled down into Daffy’s small batch gins. This gift pack includes a 200ml gin and a Spanish crystal glass. The bottle and the copa include the figurehead illustration of ‘Daffy’ as painted in 2014 by Robert McGinnis the artist behind the Breakfast at Tiffany’s James Bond and Barbarella posters. The gin itself is crafted at the Strathmashie Distillery in the Cairngorms National Park by a former winemaker and whisky distiller called Chris Molyneaux. He steeps classic botanicals and more exotic ingredients in French wheat grain spirit before distilling them in an ancient copper pot whisky still. Bottled with the purest Scottish spring water at a perfectly balanced strength the results are quite simply the elixir of the gods.
