Seigneur de Maugiron Côte-Rôtie 2012
“This team continues to knock it out of the park… all of these new releases merit serious attention.” – Wine Advocate
The energy and vibrancy of this Côte-Rôtie suggest that it has a long life ahead of it. But don’t worry, if you don’t have the patience, you’ll still be richly rewarded. Crafted from a blend of grapes from both the Côte Brune and the Côte Blonde matured for over a year in oak, this Syrah is dark, silky and as dramatic as the hot, steep slopes it was born on. Blackberries, black cherries, blackcurrants, black coffee, black pepper, dark chocolate and then just a glimpse of light with a little note of Parma Violets. Seigneur de Maugiron Côte-Rôtie is a wonderful match to pair with a black fruit reduction, peppery beef or slow-cooked, spicy stews.
Established by Charles Audibert and Philippe Delas in 1835, Delas Frères remained a family business for over 140 years and is revered for the elegance of its wines. Already incredibly well respected, this Rhône powerhouse based in Tournon has now passed into the ownership of the Rouzauds – one of the wine world’s most powerful and discerning families who also look after Champagne Louis Roederer, Château Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, Domaines Ott, Ramos Pinto and Champagne Deutz. So you are in very safe hand, especially considering that head winemaker Jacques Grange worked for Michel Chapoutier and Jean-Luc Colombo before joining Delas Frères. Under his watchful eye, the quality has gone through the roof and the wines have gained an almost Burgundy-esque finesse.
