Tasting Notes
92 points, “Exuberant aromas of hazelnut, honeycomb and cream. Red fruit richness on the palate with savoury and toasty notes.” – Decanter World Wine Awards 2021
A gold medal winner at The WineGB Awards, Digby’s flagship Vintage Reserve Brut has firmly cemented its place in the top tier of English Sparkling Wine, if not the world’s. Fizzing with lemon curd, shortbread, toasted nuts, orchard fruit, floral honey, red berry sorbet, sea spray, minerality and lemon sherbet, it just has so much energy and verve. The 2013 is very much a wine with that satisfying, refreshing, lip-smacking “Ahh” factor. That’s probably why it’s listed at the Fat Duck in Bray and Alinea in Chicago.
As English as a stiff upper lip or a cup of tea. Digby Fine English is named after Sir Kenelm Digby, the Brit who invented the modern wine bottle back in the 1630s. Without his strengthened bottles, the glory of sparkling wine would still be exploding in cellars throughout the world. Acting as a négociant, Digby source grapes from many of England’s finest vineyards that stretch out on the chalky soils from the cliffs of Dover. Under the watchful eye of the legendary Dermot Sugrue, Digby’s sophisticated and charming Head Blender, Trevor Clough, creates award-winning and very British wines.
