95 points “Échézeaux is frequently regarded as the least exciting of DRC's array of Vosne Grands Crus but the 2018 is a delight that has the concentration to age. Fermented with 90% whole bunches and aged in new wood it's spicy subtle and white pepper scented with impressive texture and palate-coating opulence racy acidity and floral top notes.” – Decanter

95 points “The colour is more purple than black. Powerful dark roses start the bouquet with some little tints of raspberry beneath. This has fully harnessed all its Échézeaux character advancing in detail on the palate. There is a dark ripe character no feeling of heat and there is even a certain intellectual austerity after the Corton and not to be displayed by Grands Échézeaux either. On the other hand the very slightest touch of over-ripeness flattens the finish.” – Jasper Morris

94 points “Subtle but perceptible wood toast frames the very ripe yet again quite fresh aromas of poached plum dark currant and a broad array of spice elements. There is fine density to the bold medium weight plus flavours that brim with dry extract that buffers the beautifully long and youthfully austere finish that flashes a touch of sweetness. This is a big and highly complex Ech indeed the word robust applies but I very much like the evident development potential and speaking of which this is also going to need extended patience.” – Allen Meadows Burghound

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti’s Échézeaux is a wine on an incredible run of form over recent vintages and that shows no sign of ending. If you are considering this exceptional wine please don’t linger too long over the decision as we only have a handful of bottles.

Sometimes simply called DRC or “the Domaine” Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is the most famous name in Burgundy if not the entire world of fine wine. The Grand Cru site from which it takes its name tops Wine-Searcher’s list of The World’s Top 50 Most Expensive Wines. Any one of their wines would be the crowning glory of any collection offering an experience that many only dream of. Based in Vosne-Romanée their holdings include the mythical La Tâche and Romanée-Conti over half of Romanée-Saint-Vivant one third of Grands Échézeaux and half of Richebourg not to mention vineyards in Corton Le Montrachet and Batard-Montrachet. Mind-numbingly low yields from their old vines exacerbate the scarcity making availability a perpetually fleeting thing.

Wine Critic Neal Martin says Domaine de la Romanée-Conti’s “wines are so rare sought after and let us be frank so prohibitively expensive; that mere utterance is as close as most people get… Their raison d'etre is to offer pleasure these are bottles surfeit with enjoyment surfeit with profundity.” He notes that the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay produced there offer “finesse balance poise refinement” and a capacity to “age like no other wine I can think of. Quite simply they have an unerring ability to maintain the freshness and poise over decades.” He concludes that those lucky enough to get their hands on a bottle “may be in for an unforgettable experience.”
