Corton Clos des Cortons Faiveley Grand Cru 2014
93-95 points, “Impressively concentrated and built-to-age.” – Allen Meadows, Burghound
The monopole of Clos des Cortons Faiveley Grand Cru is one of only two vineyards in Burgundy to include the name of the owner in the appellation, the other of course being Romanée-Conti, which shows you just what high esteem this wine is held in. As Faiveley’s flagship wine, it’s one to track down in any vintage, but especially so in one where both Decanter and Wine Enthusiast rate it at 94 points.
Fresh but powerful, its muscular frame is taut with cranberry, wild strawberry, candied orange peel, sage, raspberry, blackberry, spice and iron. That strength, combined with such elegance, gives it the poetry in motion of racehorse, and it will run and run. Serve with foie gras, game, wild mushrooms, truffles, duck confit or cassoulet.
Domaine Faiveley receives top scores from the critics every year without fail. According to Burgundy expert Clive Coates: “This is classic, expert wine-making; currently second to none. Burgundy at its best.” With more than 120 hectares of vines across the region, they command an impressive array of Grands Crus. Not a domaine that’s happy to rest on its laurels, the quality keeps going up and up.
