Bas-Armagnac 1995 - Domaine Tariquet

Domaine Tariquet

Bas-Armagnac 1995

96 points, “The nose has such opulence and charm in the guise of white chocolate, Sauternes, coffee, toffee apple, golden syrup, milky chocolate croissant, and charred pineapple and tonka. The round elegant and spicy palate is rich, heavy, complex and fine.” – International Wine & Spirit Competition 2022

A muscular, spicy and cockle-warming brandy from Domaine Tariquet that has been wowing critics for years. Distilled way back in 1995, it’s a blend of the classic Ugni Blanc and Baco, the latter being a favourite in Gascony due to its great ageing potential. Distilled in a traditional wood-fired alembic still, it’s a digestif par excellence.

An initial nose reminds us of that moment that you burn toast, kind of delicious, but kind of scary and smoky. Delving a bit deeper, you’ll discover freshly hewn oak, polished antique furniture, a dusty library of leather-bound books, walnut baklava, tobacco, orange zest, coffee beans, caramelised apple, lapsang souchong, vanilla, dried figs, lemon peel, chocolate, mulling spices and a warming tickle of pepper. It might take us 25 years just to describe how complex it is!
